Lollesgard postcard collection, ca. 1935-1957.

Summary: Collection of the remaining inventory of postcards and greeting cards, and photographs and negatives intended for postcards by the Lollesgard Specialty Co. in Tucson, ca. 1935-1957. The postcards are mostly photo cards (primarily manufactured by Frashers Inc.), but some are linen, art, and chrome post cards and a few greeting cards are present. All cards have divided backs. There are inventory sheets listing number and type of cards, quantities ordered and dates. There are images of many towns in Arizona including street scenes, government and historic buildings, hotels, parks and monuments, Native Americans, and tourist destinations typical of modern postcards. Also prsent are Reg Manning cartoon postcards, other humorous cards, and artist Lon Megargee's prints on cards.

Editorial cartoonist Reginald West Manning was born in Kansas City, Missouri in 1905. He moved with his widowed mother to Phoenix in 1919 and began work with the Arizona Republic in 1926, handling all their photography and art work. Manning became an editorial cartoonist on July 17, 1934. Manning was initially known for his feature cartoon page, The Big Parade, in the Arizona Republic . Biographical note: Holger A. "Lolly" Lollesgard was founder and owner of Lollesgard Specialty Co., Inc. of Tucson, Arizona. Born in 1893, he moved to Tucson in 1932 to open a postcard and stationery shop. He supplied Arizona businesses and military bases until his store closed in 1984.
